LOS ANGELES — The Rose Garden's album from 1967 and 14 previously unissued songs by the band were recently "restored and remastered" into "A Trip Through The Garden: The Rose Garden Collection" CD.

The lead singer/guitarist/background singer for The Rose Garden, a folk rock band, was Diana De Rose, a 1964 graduate of Parkersburg High School.

Diana (De Rose) Cross lives in San Antonio, Texas, with her husband, Dr. Chriss Cross. She turns 72 years old on July 29.

"I had my hit," Diana said of The Rose Garden's debut single "Next Plane To London." In December 1967, the song rose to No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 national singles chart.

A month later, the single topped the Canadian RPM chart, according to Omnivore Recordings, the Los Angeles-based company that reissues albums by artists, including The Rose Garden CD.

Photos Provided Diana (De Rose) Cross has lived in San Antonio, Texas, for the past 25 years, where she enjoys playing golf.

"Considering the stiff competition at that point, along with the odds stacked against them as an unknown new band, The Rose Garden members can feel justifiably proud of their accomplishment," according to author John Einarson.

Diana said she enjoyed singing with The Rose Garden quintet of Southern California, which toured in 1967 and 1968. The Rose Garden's only album had 10 songs and the band also released two other songs.

"A Trip Through The Garden: The Rose Garden Collection" CD adds 14 previously unissued tracks, including five live performances. The Rose Garden collection also includes photos of the band and liner notes by John Einarson, Gene Clark biographer, featuring new interviews with the band.

The new Rose Garden CD was scheduled to be available in stores beginning June 15.

After leaving The Rose Garden, Diana said, she joined the rock band Smith in Los Angeles as vocalist for about a year. Smith's hit song in 1969 was "Baby It's You."

Diana said she left the music business because of the stressful life on the road as a member of a touring band.

She worked as a graphic artist for companies in Southern California, and now enjoys playing golf in Texas.

While living in Parkersburg in the 1960s, Diana was a member of The Suns of Thunder folk trio, along with John Swales and Lillian Sams. Diana said she also played music as a solo performer during the '60s at West Virginia folk festivals.

After graduating from PHS, she went to New York City's Greenwich Village to play music for a while. She then left for California, determined to become a rock 'n' roll star before she was 20 years old, Diana said.

Jim Dawson, a 1962 graduate of Parkersburg High School, author and an authority on early rock 'n' roll, put together the "official Rose Garden website" at electricearl.com/dawson/rosegarden.html.

Dawson, who lives in Los Angeles, said he dedicated an Internet page to Diana and The Rose Garden because she is the only Parkersburg native he was aware of who had a hit record.

When asked what music she now listens to, Diana said she enjoys the classical music of Beethoven and Mozart.
